June loth, 1949
The members of the Board of Directors of the Truckee Public
Utility District met in special meeting at the office of the
District on Main St., Truckee at 1:30 P M. , E L Loynd, pres-
ident, presiding.
The following Directors were noted present:
B W Reynolds C R Heller E L Loynd
Also present were L. _..Cedfic- Macabee, Consulting Engineer from
Palo Alto and his associate Mr. Dean Kingman. Mr. Kingman
reported that he had been investigating the water situation
of Truckee during the past four days and submitted a sketch
of the Truckee -Gateway and Meadow Lake areas showing the
present layout of the sources of supply and mains, together
with proposed sources and new mains linking up the Truckee -
and Gateway systems. He stated that he found the present
spring source of supply inadequate for future growth and
advised the addition of a large pumping facilities in the
Meadow Lake area to supplement present sources of supply,
'""' together with additional storage facilities to consist of
a 100,000 gallon reservoir in the Gateway area and 200,000
gallon reservoir capacity in Truckee. The entire cost of
these facilities together with some necessary replacements
and additions to the present system and the building of a
warehouse for the District at an expense of approximately
$10,000.00 would bring the total sum around $155,000,00,
This sum did not cover the acquisition of the Truckee water
System or the Sanders Water System.
Some discussion took place relative to the purchase of
these syttems either by negotiation wt the owners or by con-
demnation proceedings and the possibility of the District
acquiring most of the consumers from the other district was
also considered.
It was stated by the engineers that with a plentiful
supply of good water that this latter consideration might be
easily accomplished in view of the inadequacy of the supply
of the othl4tr two systems. Mr. Macabee and Mr. Kingman both
felt that the financing of a .bond issue of $155,000.00 should
be amortized over a period of approximately 40 years.
The suggested plans of Mr. Kingman called for the
installation of cast iron pipe where hew mains were to
be laid. He stated that by substituting thin wall
welded pipe the estimate might be cut down by about
$15,000.00. The income of the District for the fiscal
year of 1948 was considered and ways and means were
talked over by which the financing of a bond issue of
the amount of $1$5,000.00 might be accomplished.
It was thought that the legal questions involving a
bond issue of this amount should be discussed with. Attorney
Chamberlain and in as much as Mr. Chamberlain was attend-
ing a meeting of the Kings Beach Utility District this
evening and would be returning homeward tomorrow, Mr.
Macabee was requested to ask Mr. Chamberlain to stop at our
District office if possible the next morning.
Mr. Racabee stated that he would submit the estimate
in writing for the further consideration of the Directors.
No further business appearing, Board adjourned.
