HomeMy WebLinkAbout1954-06-08 Min - BoardChairman Loynd stated that the merchants of Main St. were agreeing to put up $2.00 a month each to have the Main St. swept once each week during the surmmer months and it was moved and carried that the District should contribute the sum of $2.00.each month to assist in this work. The Manager submitted a schedule of proposed rates under classification LCB & S whereby a reduction would be made in these rates approximately 6% . The matter was discussed by the Board and laid over for further consideration after a comparison could be made of the past three months under the old and proposed schedules. The matter of the auditing of the books of the District for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1954 was discussed and a motion made and carried that the firm. of H. Straine & Sons in Sacramento be retained to audit the books for the year. Forni- concrete meter boxes 80.34 The Manager reported-- that Dr. Kase had called at the office on Friday, June 4th 276 relative to analysis of our water and reported that 2 cases of typhoid had OL developed in the Tahoe City area, and he discussed the various water analysis made by the State Board of Health on the Truckee water. He was assured t)rat the District was Vitally interested.in the quality of the water we served and that analysis was made of the same at periodic intervals to assure of its purity. The Manager explained the payment of $100.00 on the Truckee Resort account and stated that the Resort had been reconnected under the new lessee name and that the matter had been discussed with attorney-P. Chamberlain, who stated that he would endeavor to collect the balance due from. Mr. I 0 Gifford and if he was not successful that he would have the same placed on the tax roll of the Truckee Resort for the corning year. The Manager also reported on two -or three other outstand— ing bills. I At this point i a Flynn entered the meeting for the purpose of discussing with the ,Board members her outstanding bill of 100,00, She agreed that she would pay her current bill each month and a sum of not less than $20.00 on the old 'qill. This -was agreed to by the Board members. The Manager stated that on the matter of request for bids for 100,000 gallon redwood tank that no official bids had been received but that quotations had been received from the G W Null Engineering Co. at San Francisco, quoting a price on the tank erected of $5983,82 and another quotation from the Sant. Fe Tank and Tower Co. of $5358.62. After some discussion it was decided that the best interests of the District would be served by accepting the quotation of the Santa Fe Tank & Tower Co. and it was therefore moved and carried that the Manager be authorized to accept the offer of the Santa Fe Tank & Tower Co. at the price quoted. The Manager reported that the agreement entered into with the Southern Pacific Co. relative to pipe line crossing near the depot had been signed and the termination had also been signed by Matt Green, The Manager reported on a meeting he attended on Friday, June 4th at Grass valley at the office of McGuire & Sons relative to the Washoe Project, At that meeting it was decided that the County of Nevada would put in a protest to the applica. tion of the Reclamation Bureau for the water of the Little Truckee River. It was also suggested that th e Utility District file a protest, such protests were supposed to be filed by June 6th, however,, a telephone communication from Mr. McGuire on Saturday, June 5th advised that he had received word that the matter of a hearing had been postponed for 6 months. The Manager emphasized to the directors the need for arousing public sentiment, particularly from Service Clubs and organized Groups to protest the diversion from Stampede Dam through a tunnel. The Manager brought up the matter of the present handling of the duties of the Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and the apparent confusion in the handling of correspondence. Director Chas. Heller stated he would take the matter up at the next meeting. Director Heller brought up the matter of Chamber of Commerce leasing the south end of the road leading past the Union Service Station and the Checking Station and in front of the Donner Dog House for an information booth. Said booth to be operated by an Advertising Agency to distribute circulars and information about California. It was moved and carried that this portion of land be -leased to the Truckee Chamber of Co_}nmerce under a stipulation that the lease may be cancelled on 90 days notice.
