Staff Report
To: Board of Directors
From: Scott Terrell
Date: May 16, 2003
The District's Board of Directors made a decision this Spring to embark on a voluntary landscape
water conservation program that involves the education of the District's water customers on ways to
save water through the selection of low-water use landscaping species and low-water use irrigation
systems. The program will also educate customers about the fact that low-water using landscapes
can be just as lush and beautiful as high water-using landscapes.
In order to get the message out to the District's customers staff recommended to the Board that the
District use the services of a marketing company. In the April 16 Board of Directors meeting the
Board approved using Gilwee PR to perform these services. One of the tasks that was also approved
by the Board was the creation of a symbol or "logo' in which customers would recognize and
associate with the landscape water conservation program.
Gilwee PR created six different options for the District to consider for the landscape water
conservation program logo. At the Board meeting staff will show the Board members the six options
and ask them which one they would like to use. The logo is both a graphic as well as a byline. As an
option the Board may choose to select a graphic and byline from two different logos.
