HomeMy WebLinkAbout5 Glenshire Well Abandonment Agenda Item # TRUli DONNER Public Utility District Memorandum To: Board of Directors From: Ed Taylor, Water Utility Manager Date: 6-27-2003 Subject: Authorization to bid for the Glenshire Well Abandonment Project. 1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD Board authorization is required to advertise for, accept and open bids for the Glenshire Well Abandonment Project 2. HISTORY When the District acquired the Glenshire system, the water source was from wells, which have an arsenic level higher than the new standards. The District constructed a new transmission main that provides water from the Glenshire Dr. Well. The high arsenic wells in Glenshire are no longer in use. Staff has evaluated using this wells for irrigation. The cost to pipe the well water to the sites that could use the water for irrigation exceeds the cost benefit for the use of irrigation water from these wells. These wells need to be abandoned per state regulations. The cost of this project will ultimately be funded from the Glenshire Sinking Fund. 3. NEW INFORMATION The plans, specifications, and contract documents for the Glenshire Well Abandonment Project are complete. We are now asking authorization to advertise for, accept, and open bids for the Glenshire Well Abandonment Project with a bid opening date of July 30, 2003. 4. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the Board authorize staff to advertise for, accept, and open bids for the Glenshire Well Abandonment Project with a bid opening date of July 30, 2003. •Page 1
