HomeMy WebLinkAbout5 Appreciation to Roseville Agenda Item # Soo Memorandum To: Board of Directors From: Peter Holzmeister Date: December 27, 2002 Subject: Resolutions commending Roseville Electric, Modesto Irrigation District and Pumas Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative 1. WHY THIS ITEM IS BEFORE THE BOARD I am recommending that the Board express the District's appreciation to the crews of Roseville, MID and Plumas Sierra REC for the help they provided during the storm in December. I recommend that our appreciation be expressed by resolution, and only the Board can adopt a resolution 2. HISTORY Truckee experienced a severe storm during the week before Christmas. The strong winds blew down numerous trees causing widespread damage to our electric distribution system. The heavy snow that followed caused further damage and made it difficult to get to many damaged areas. We called for help and Roseville Electric, Modesto Irrigation District and Plumas Sierra Rural Electric Coop responded. With their help we were able to restore power by Christmas to virtually all our customers. Only customers with damage to their homes were still without power on Christmas. 4. NEW INFORMATION The outside crews went home by Christmas Eve, and our crews were able to complete the work of restoring services. I have drafted resolutions commending Roseville, MID and Plumas Sierra for your consideration 5. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the Board adopt the three resolutions. We could consider sending the resolutions to the legislative bodies of each agency and to their hometown newspapers. a VIC r 1 DONN 1 Public Utility D + j R psolufion No . 2002 - XXX Commending the Roseville Electric Crew for Assisting Truckee Donner Public Utility District During the Winter Storm of December, 2002 WHEREAS Truckee and the Sierra Nevada Mountain area experienced a severe winter storm during the period December 14 through December 22; and WHEREAS as a result of that storm numerous trees blew down damaging the TDPUD electric distribution system, and heavy snow built up on the distribution system causing extensive additional damage; and WHEREAS the above cited damage resulted in loss of electric power to thousands of District customers; and WHEREAS the District line crews found that it would not be possible to repair the damaged distribution system and restore power by the Christmas holiday period without assistance from other electric utilities; and WHEREAS line crew members from Roseville Electric responded to our call for assistance by dispatching nine crew members and six vehicles to Truckee to work with the Truckee crews; and WHEREAS the Roseville crews performed in an exemplary manner for long hours in the most severe weather conditions resulting in power being restored by Christmas Eve; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE DISTRICT THAT 1.
