ONNER Public Utility District ACTION To: Board of Directors From: Brian Wright Date: November 19, 2014 Subject: Consideration of Adopting a Resolution for George Caballero's Retirement 1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD This matter involves adoption of a resolution recognizing George Caballero for his twenty-four years of service to the District on the occasion of his retirement. 2. HISTORY George Caballero was hired by the District on September 17, 1990 and joined the water utility as a Water Helper. In his more than 24 years of employment with the District, George has served in many capacities within the water utility maintenance and operations group. His willingness to accept new challenges has afforded him the opportunity to progress through the organization from an entry level Water Helper to Water Distribution Foreman and most recently as Water Operations Foreman. As a Water Service Technician and Water Distribution Foreman, George made significant contributions in many of the District's water utility projects over the years. In 1993, George was upgraded to Leadman/Inspector for the Downtown Water Pipeline Replacement Project, eventually transitioning into the initial phases of the Commercial Metering Project. In 2001 George was assigned to inspect the Donner Lake Water Pipeline and Natural Gas Installation Projects, completed cooperatively between the District and Southwest Gas Co. Many District employees recollect 2001-2002 as being two of the most demanding construction seasons in recent memory for the utility crews. George recalls his role in this project better described as Inspector/Trainer/Planner/Neighborhood Public Relations Liaison/Pipe Fitter/Translator. Even with all of its unique challenges, the Donner Lake Water Main Installation Project was successfully completed and passed final testing. In retrospect, he credits this experience as an important transition in his career, as it better prepared him for opportunities yet to come. In 2003 George was promoted to Water Distribution Foreman. In 2008, he was awarded the Water Operations Foreman position, where he and his crew have supervised the daily operation and maintenance of the District's wells, storage tanks and pump stations. 3. NEW INFORMATION George announced his retirement to be effective on January 2, 2015. During the past twenty-four years, George has been an integral part of the District's Water Department. He is highly respected by his co-workers for his superior work ethic and availability to respond and provide support at anytime. We wish him the best in his future endeavors. The draft resolution commending George for his service to the District and its customers is included as Attachment 1. 4. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact associated with this agenda item. 5.
