HomeMy WebLinkAbout8 Donner Lake Tract Pipelines TDPUD MEMORANDUM August 13, 2003 TO: Board of Directors FROM: Neil Kaufman, Water System Engineer SUBJECT: DONNER LAKE TRACT PIPELINES CHANGE ORDER #1 AGENDA # BACKGROUND: The Board of Directors previously awarded the Contract for construction of the DONNER LAKE TRACT PIPELINES project to Herbert Suter Construction. The project has been underway for about 2 months. Construction of all of the main line piping has been completed and the pipeline passed the pressure test on August 12. 1 am requesting a Change Order to the Contract for issues covered under three general items that will cover all of the outstanding issues encountered to date. Item 1: The Contract contains a rock excavation clause whereby the Contractor is due additional compensation for performing rock excavation. The Contractor is due $16,755.50 for rock excavation. Southwest Gas will pay the District $2,513.33 to cover its portion of the rock excavation. Item 2: Accurate maps of the roadways and existing utilities were not available for the Donner Lake Tract. Due to the lack of accurate maps, it was necessary to install 13 additional elbows that were not shown on the plans in order to keep the pipe in the roadways, to avoid existing utilities and to maintain proper separation from the sanitary sewer. The Contractor is due$16,178.72 for installation of these additional elbows. Item 3: As noted above, accurate maps of the existing roadways and existing utilities were not available. The Contractor encountered a number of unmarked water and sewer pipes that required repair along with a 24-inch storm drain. The Contractor is due $9,974.01 for repair of these utilities. RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that the Board authorize Contract Change Order #1, in the amount of a $42,908.23 payment to Herbert Suter Construction from the District. The Contractor shall construct, furnish equipment and materials, and perform all work as necessary or required to complete the Change Order Items for a lump sum price agreed upon between the Contractor and District. The undersigned Contractor approves the foregoing Change Order as to the changes, if any, in the contract price specified for each item including any and all supervision costs and other miscellaneous costs relating to the change in work, and as to the extension of time allowed, if any, for completion of the entire work on account of said Change Order. The Contractor agrees to furnish all labor and materials and perform all other necessary work, inclusive of the directly or indirectly related to the approved time extension, required to complete the Change order items. This document will become a supplement of the contract and all provisions will apply hereto.
