HomeMy WebLinkAbout15 Artwork District Headquarters Agenda Item # 15 Memorandum To: Board of Directors From: Alan Harry Date: August 15, 2005 Subject: Display of Local artwork in District headquarters building Summary At your regular meeting of July 20, 2005, staff brought forward a draft policy pertaining to Public Art Display for Board review and discussion. During the workshop a number of additions to the policy were voiced by the Board. Staff have made these additions, see attached administrative procedure, and have placed It in the Board's August 17"'Agenda for possible action. History Staff has been thinking about upgrading the image our District headquarters building, and as such developed a draft policy to assist in setting parameters for the type of artwork to be displayed in public areas, and the amount of time it would be displayed. At the Board's regular meeting of July 2dh a workshop was held to discuss the placement of art in the District headquarters. New information Additions to the draft administrative procedure arising out of the workshop have been added to better clarify the procedure. The draft policy is attached for your review { Recommendation I It is recommended that the Board adopt the attached policy regarding public art displays in the District headquarters building and the associated release of liability form. POLICY REGARDING PUBLIC ART DISPLAYS IN THE DISTRICT HEADQUARTERS BUILDING It is the policy of the District to display art work in the District headquarters building created by local area artists under the terms set forth below. Public Art Displays Public Art Displays are defined as watercolor, oil, pastel, pencil, photographic and other forms of artwork hung in public areas within the District's facilities for a period of no less than six (6) months. Artistic Theme The theme of all artwork displayed in District facilities shall be Truckee History, our local environment and/or Public Utilities. Such artwork must be politically neutral and in good taste. Liability All artisans displaying their work in District facilities must agree to and sign a Public Art Display Waiver of liability, attached, in order for their work to be displayed in District Facilities. Sale of Artwork All artwork will have a descriptive placard located in the bottom right corner of the piece detailing the name of the piece, its price and artist contact information. s f x AGREEMENT ARTIST AND TRUCKEE DONNER PUD RELEASE OF RESPONSIBILITY ARTIST: Address: (Mailing: street, P.O. Box) (City) (Zip) Phone Numbers: (Day) (Evening) Title of Work Medium Size Price Date Rec'd Date Ret'd Date Sold $ $ General Information and requirements for artwork: The TDPUD Director of Support Services is responsible for enforcing the requirements. • Have identifying information affixed to the back, including artist name, address and price. • Be framed and wired for hanging. (Locks are used to secure artwork) • Price cannot be more than $400,00. • Artwork is rotated every 6 months. • Retain for one year. You will be notified to pick up artwork. If not picked up within 60 days, the piece will become property of Truckee Donner PUD. • A short biography of the artist is requested and will be placed in the artist folder. Liability Release The exhibitor acknowledges that the Truckee Donner PUD and all handling personnel are not responsible for damage or loss of artwork, frames and glass.
