Subject: Consideration of the Award a Bid for Emergency Generator Sets
1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD
Board approval is required for equipment purchases over$15,000.
2. HISTORY
The District currently has 20 emergency generators to provide standby power for
District facilities.
3. NEW INFORMATION
Two new emergency generators are required to ensure continuous operation during
an emergency. One of the two new generators is for the SCADA Reliability & Disaster
Recovery Building. The other will provide backup power for the two-way radio
repeater, netowrk, and SCADA system.
Specifications and bid packages were prepared for two generator sets. A request for
bids was advertised in the Sierra Sun on June 25, 2014. Bid packets were sent to
suppliers of emergency generator sets. Only one bid was was received and a bid
opening was held on July 9, 2014. The result of the bid opening are as follows:

Cummins RockyMountain I Sparks, Nevada $ 44,736.52
The bid from Cummins Rocky Mountain was found to be responsive as it meets all of
the bid specifications.
4. FISCAL IMPACT
Sufficient funds exist in the FY14 Budget for the purchase of two emergency generator
sets.
5. RECOMMENDATION
Award the purchase of two emergency generator sets to Cummins Rocky Mountain of
Sparks, NV in the total amount of $44,737 with a 5% change order authorizatioin, not
to exceed $46,974 plus applicable tax.
