HomeMy WebLinkAbout15 Water Pipeline Brockway & Martis Valley Agenda Item # Workshop To: Board of Directors From: Neil Kaufman Date: March 28, 2006 Subject: Consideration of an Agreement with 267 Partners regarding Construction of a Water Pipeline at the Intersection of Brockway Rd. & Martis Valley Rd. 1. Why this matter is before the board: Board Authorization is required for expenditures in excess of $15,000. 2. History: There is an existing 14-inch pipeline located on the north side of Brockway Way at the intersection with Martis Valley Road. There is an existing 8-inch pipeline located on the south side of Brockway Way at the same intersection. 3. New information: 267 Partners is constructing a project on the northwest corner of Brockway Way & Martis Valley Road. This project contains both commercial and residential components and is known as 'The Rock"and"Ponderosa Greens." As a condition of project approval by the Town of Truckee, 267 Partners is required to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Brockway Way & Martis Valley Road. The design of this roundabout is essentially complete and roundabout will be constructed this summer. The Water Department has identified the need interconnect the two existing pipelines at this location in order to increase reliability and lower excessive system pressures in the eastern portion of the Sierra Meadows subdivision. I have been in discussions with the design engineer for the roundabout and they have agreed to include the water pipeline work in the design drawings and list it as a separate item on the Bid Schedule for the project. I have also considered have the District hire a contractor to perform this work in May 2006, prior to construction of the roundabout. Using the roundabout contractor to perform this work would be advantageous for a number of reasons: • Traffic control will be handled as part of the overall project • Pavement repair will not be required that is part of the overall project • A potential conflict with the new storm drainpipes will be avoided The Town will be contributing some money from traffic mitigation fees (AB 1600) towards the project. The developer is required to receive at least three bids in order for the project to be eligible for these funds. s i Project Schedule: Beginning of April - Complete design and begin bid solicitation Beginning of May— Receive bids Beginning of June—Commence construction 4. Recommendation: There is no recommendation at this time. Once 267 Partners has received bids, I will bring this matter to the Board for final approval.
