HomeMy WebLinkAboutPresentation Truckee Donner Public Utility District Formed pursuant to the Public Utility District Act of the State of California ; Separate, legal entity owned and controlled by registered voters who elect the governing , five-member Board of Directors . Mission Provide adequate , reliable and high quality water and electrical power services, and to manage District resources in an open , responsible , environmentally sound manner at the lowest practical cost; Build to provide reliable service for existing customers; Build for growth pursuant to the General Plans of the Town of Truckee , Nevada and Placer Counties. Water Basin The District operates in an unadjudicated water basin . Truckee River Operating Agreement ("TROA") allocates surface waters of Lake Tahoe , and of the Truckee and Carson Rivers between California and Nevada . The District complies with current, non- binding TROA provisions. California Water Regulations Two general categories : 1 ) Water Quality standards; and 2) Water System Operations standards . Enforced by Department of Health Services and Department of Water Resources. Department of Water Resources Regulates location , construction , maintenance, alteration , abandonment, and destruction of water wells ; Requires a C-57 Water Well Contractor's License and detailed reports for any one who digs, bores, drills, deepens, or alters a water well ; The District fully complies with these regulations and is in routine communication with DWR. Department of Health Services Implements the California Safe Drinking Water Act; Enforces U . S . Environmental Protection Agency's water quality standards; ,", Sets standards for adequate quality of water supply. California Legislation SIB 221 , Certification of Sufficient Water Supply: written verification that sufficient water supply is available for 20 years before approving plans for new development of 500 units or more . S B 610, Water Supply Planning: u rba n wate r management plan must include descriptions of all water supply projects and programs that may be undertaken to meet total projected water use. California Legislation , cont. -AB 2572, Water Meters: must install water meters (before January 1 , 2005), and charge for service based on water meter readings (before January 1 , 2010) .
