Subject: General Manager recruitment
WHY THIS MATTER IF BEFORE THE BOARD:
This item involves the selection process for hiring the General Manager.
BACKGROUND
Ralph Andersen & Associates (RA&A) was retained in July by the Board of Directors to
lead the search for a new District General Manager. In the last few months, Mike Lawson
(RA&A) has assisted the Board with a General Manager position profile and formation of a
recruitment brochure. Recruitement activites and preliminary interviews with qualified
candidates have been ongoing and the closing date defined as October 10, 2007.
NEW INFORMATION
In closed session, the Directors will receive binders containing the top 12 candidates who
have been prescreened by RA&A. The binder will also include an instruction memorandum
from Mike Lawson (RA&A).
This next stage requires the Board to set a schedule to continue the selection process.
Below is a recommended schedule that has been developed by RA&A for the continuation
of the process. Please remember that the District will most liely pick up costs associated
with the selected candidates' interviews.
October 23: The Board (or Board appointed committee) will review the binders and narrow
down the list of candidates to 5-8 for interviews.
November 5 and/or 6: In person interviews of all selected candidates. If the Board (or
Board appointed committee) wants to interview 8 candidates, it may be easier to
split these interviews into 2 days. This process would narrow the candidate pool
down to 2-3 individuals.
November 19 or 20: Second interview of the top 2-3 candidates.
Mike Lawson feels with this schedule it would be possible to appoint a new General
Manager by December 5 and a possible start date of January 7, 2008.
4. RECOMMENDATION
Consideration of setting an approximate timetable for candidate review and interviews so
meeting dates can be coordinated.
