WHY T HIS MAT T ER IS BEFORE T HE BOARD This ma tter i nvolves schedul i ng a publ ic hea ring related to adoption of el ectri c and water standby charges for the 2015-2016 tax year. 2. HIST ORY Standby charges have been assessed on va cant parcels in the District since 1975. These annual charges recoup the District's o perating and maintenance costs of the el ectri c and water distribution faci l i ties from parcel owners who benefit from thei r vacant lot being in close proxi mity to the di stri buti on facili ties. Standby rates have no t been modifi ed i n many years, and there ar e no proposed changes at this ti me. 3. NEW INFORMAT ION This i tem rel ates to holding a public hea ring t o consider renewing the e xisting electric and water standby charges on vacant parcel s in the Di strict. Publ i c notice of the hearing requi res publi cation of a noti ce i n a newspaper once a week for two successive weeks, wi th at least five days be tween the respecti ve pub l icati on dates. The fi rst noti ce will be publ i shed on Ma y 8th, and the second notice will be published on May 15th. 4.
