HomeMy WebLinkAbout9 Continue Safety IncentivesPage 1 of 2AgendaItem#9TRUCKEEDONNER;PublicUtilityDistrict--------------~~----CONSENTTo:From:Date:Subject:BoardofDirectorsKimHarrisMarch02,2016ConsiderationofContinuingtheDistrict'sSafetyIncentive1.WHYTHISMATTERISBEFORETHEBOARDTheBoardapprovesthesafetyincentiveprogram.2.HISTORYTheDistrict'sworkers'compensationinsurancemodifier(X-MOD)hassteadilydecreasedsince2010.In2014and2015,theX-MODstartedincreasing.TheDistrictrecognizesthatlost-timeaccidentscontributessignificantlytotheX-MODfactor.Rewardingemployeesfornolost-timeaccidentsisanexcellentwaytokeepupmomentumforthesafetycultureattheDistrict.TheDistrictrewardedemployeesfornolost-timeaccidentsin2011,2012, 2013,2014and2015intheamountsof$125,$200and$250respectivelyforthepastthreeyears.In2015,theprogramwasadjustedtorewardindividualemployeesfornolost-timeaccidents.3.NEWINFORMATIONTheDistrictexperiencedeightaccidentsin2015,whichisdownfrom15wehadin2014.TheDistrict'scommitmenttosafetyisshownthroughthesafetycultureamongtheemployees.Regulartrainings,meetings,andreviewofincidentsispartoftheprogramtokeepsafeworkpracticesapriorityduringtheworkday.TheDistrict'sgoalandincentiveprogramofnolost-timeinjurieshasbeeneffectivesince2010.Rewardingsafebehaviorandpracticesisaneffectivewayofpromotingandmaintainingoursuccessfulsafetyculture.TheDistrictisproposingtocontinuewiththegoalofnolost-timeinjuriesoraccidentsandrewardemployeesforreachingthisgoal.Withthehelpofthesafetycommittee,theDistrictisproposingthateachemployeethatreachesthisgoalreceivea$250incentive.TheUnionhasalsocommittedtosupportthisprogramtorewardemployeesfornolost-timeinjuriesoraccidents.
