2. HISTORY
Historically, the District has owned two digger derricks, which is a piece of equipment
that is utilized for replacements and maintenenace of poles, transformers, power
lines. The current digger derricks are a larger pieces of equipment that have the
ability to drive on the road.
At the request of the crews for more efficiency, in April of 2017, the District rented a
smaller digger derrick with tracks. The purpose of this piece of equipment is to utilize
the smaller size and tracks, allowing, crews access in easment areas of back yard or
areas where full size trucks cannot access. The low ground pressure technology
enables access while minimizing damage to yards and landscaping.
After a six month trial, staff reviewed the efficiencies and needs of the line crew,
determaining that an additional smaller sized derrick digger will increase efficiency
and lower damage to landscape during the normal course of District business.
On October 31, 2017, the District publically advertized specifications and requests for
the purchase of a new tracked digger -derrick or a tracked digger -derrick with less
than 175 hours of use, with a Tier 4, CARB compliant engine, including a transport
trailer.
On November 22, 2017) a bid opening was held and the District received two bids and
both were responsive.
