Approve the FY22 Safety Incentive Award in the amount of $300 to each District employee
with no lost -time accident(s) in FY21.
BACKGROUND:
To promote the District's Core Value of Safety and organizational culture, the Board
has historically awarded a safety incentive to employees. From 2014-2017, the District
awarded those employees who did not have lost -time accident an incentive in the
amount of $250 each year. Since 2020, the District has awarded those employees who
did not have lost -time accident in the previous FY an incentive in the amount of $300.
Since 2008 the District has had twelve lost time accidents which is truly remarkable.
The District's commitment to Safety as our number one Core Value, is highly
dependent upon our employees living the safety culture and diligent application of safe
practices. Regular trainings facilitated by internal staff and industry experts, tailgate
meetings and regular review of "near misses" and incident reports is part of the program
to keep safe work practices a priority during the work day.
The District's goal and incentive program of no lost -time injuries has been effective for
many years. In 2021, with the District's over 134,000 work hours (average of 70
employees, working an average of 1920 hours FY21), there was only two lost time
injuries. Acknowledging safe behavior and practices is an effective way of promoting
and maintaining our successful safety culture.
