Subject: Consideration of Scheduling a Public Hearing Related to Adoption
of a Green Energy Rate
1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD
This item involves scheduling a public hearing for the regularly scheduled August 1,
2018 Board meeting related to the adoption of a new Green Energy Rate and requires
Board action.
2. HISTORY
On June 6, 2018 a workshop was presented to the Board to discuss the proposed
new District Green Energy Rate. The proposed Green Energy Rate is a new rate
structure where an additional kWh charge that represents 100% renewable energy
can be purchased by our customers. The proposed green energy rate premium is 4
cents per kWh and would be made available and promoted to all customer classes.
3. NEW INFORMATION
Staff is proposing to conduct a public hearing at the August 1, 2018 Board meeting to
present the Green Energy Rate for the Board's consideration. Some of the benefits
available to District customers with a Green Energy Rate include:
• Purchasing 1000/^ renewable resources to cover their load;
• Reducing the District's dependence on non-renewable energy sources like
• natural gas and other unspecified sources using fossil fuels;
• Driving further expansion of wind energy and other renewable or carbon -free
sources; and
• Decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.
The adoption of the Green Energy Rate would be according to the following schedule:
• July 18, 2018 -Consideration of Scheduling a Public Hearing (tonight);
• August 1, 2018 -Public Hearing; and
0 August 1, 2018 - Possible Approval of the new Green Energy Rate.

4. FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with scheduling a public hearing.
5. RECOMMENDATION
Schedule a public hearing for the regularly scheduled District Board meeting on
August 1, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. or soon thereafter for the purpose of receiving public
comment on the proposed adoption of a new Green Energy Rate.
