HomeMy WebLinkAbout8 2019 Employee Safety IncentiveAgendaItem#ir8TRUCKEEDONNERPublicUtilityDistrictCONSENTTo:BoardofDirectorsFrom:ReginaWiseDate:January15,2020Subject:Considerationof2019EmployeeSafetyIncentive1.WHYTHISMATTERISBEFORETHEBOARDTheBoardapprovesthesafetyincentiveprogram.2.HISTORYTopromoteasafeworkplace,theBoardhasawardedasafetyincentivetoemployees.From2014to2017,theDistrictrewardedthoseemployeeswhodidnothavelost-timeaccidentsanincentiveintheamountof$250eachyear.In2018,theDistrictrewardedthoseemployeeswhodidnothavelost-timeaccidentsanincentiveintheamountof$300.3.NEWINFORMATIONTheDistrict’scommitmenttosafetyisdependentuponthesafetycultureamongtheemployees.Regulartrainings,meetingsandreviewofincidentsispartoftheprogramtokeepsafeworkpracticesapriorityduringtheworkday.TheDistrict’sgoalandincentiveprogramofnolost-timeinjurieshasbeeneffectiveformanyyears.Since2008thedistricthashadlessthantenlosttimeaccidentswhichistrulyremarkable.Rewardingsafebehaviorandpracticesisaneffectivewayofpromotingandmaintainingoursuccessfulsafetyculture.Staffisproposingtocontinuewiththegoalofnolost-timeinjuriesoraccidentsandrewardemployeesforreachingthisgoal.WiththehelpoftheDistrict’ssafetycommittee,theDistrictisproposingthateachemployeethatreachesthisgoalreceivea$300incentiveforFYi9.4.FISCALIMPACTThecostoftheFYi9safetyincentiveprogramwillnotexceed$21,000.ThisisabudgetedexpenseintheFY20Boardapprovedbudget. 5.RECOMMENDATIONApproveasafetyincentiveof$300toeachDistrictemployeeprovidedheorsheincurrednolost-timeaccident(s)inFY19./cReginaWiseMichaelD.HolleyFinance&AccountingManagerGeneralManager
