Consideration of Resolutions to Consolidate the General Election
on November 3, 2020
CONSENT
1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD
Nevada County and Placer County Elections Divisions have notified the District of
state-mandated preparations for the November 3, 2020 General Election. These
requirements and deadlines must be met before either county can consolidate our
elections. These resolutions begin the election process for the District.
2. HISTORY
Every two years, director position elections take place during the November General
Election. The District is required to submit resolutions to consolidate the District's
election with Placer and Nevada Counties. The resolutions are very routine in nature,
with the only changes being those Directors whose terms will expire.
3. NEW INFORMATION
On November 3, 2020 three Director's seats will be up for election including:
Joe Aguera;
Jeff Bender; and
Bob Ellis.
The District must submit paperwork to Nevada County and Placer County by July 1,
2020. Candidate filing begins July 13, 2020 and regular candidate filing ends August
7, 2020. This period is extended if an incumbent chooses to not file, making the close
of candidate filing August 12, 2020.
Attachment 1 is Resolution 2020-16 requesting consolidated elections with Nevada
County Elections and Attachment 2 is resolution 2020-17 requesting consolidated
election with Placer County.
Shanna D. Kuhlemier, CMC Michael D. Holley
District Clerk General Manager
4. FISCAL IMPACT
Sufficient funds exist in the FY20 Budget for election expenses.
5. RECOMMENDATION
Approve the resolutions to conduct and consolidate the District's November 2020
election:
1) Resolution 2020-16 Calling a General District Election (Nevada County).
2) Resolution 2020-17 Notice of Governing Board Member Election and/or Notice to
Submit Measure(s) to a Vote of the Voters (Placer County).
