HomeMy WebLinkAbout10 Consideration for Approval to Increase Annual Procurement of Sodium Hypochlorite AGENDA ITEM 10 Page 1 of 2 MEETING DATE: December 2, 2020 FROM: Brian Wright, Interim General Manager/Water Utility Director SUBJECT: Consideration for Approval of an Increased Annual Procurement with Thatcher Company APPROVED BY_________________________________ Brian Wright, Interim General Manager/ Water Utility Director RECOMMENDATION: Approve an increase in annual procurement of sodium hypochlorite with Thatcher Company from an amount of $26,030 to an amount not to exceed $31,000. DISCUSSION: Each year the Board approves annual procurements for materials and services anticipated to be required across all operations of the District. Included within the annual procurement approvals for 2020 is bulk sodium hypochlorite (chlorine), utilized by water utility operations in the disinfection of potable groundwater. This procurement contract was executed In 2020, the District has experienced an increase in groundwater production of approximately 15% over 2019. Due to this increase in groundwater production, water operations has also required a greater volume in sodium hypochlorite than anticipated. In order to maintain sufficient supply quantities for groundwater production, including emergency reserves, staff is recommending approval to increase the 2020 annual procurement authorization by 20%. This project is being conducted in support of the following District objectives and goals: 1.05.020 Objectives: 3. Provide reliable and high quality water supply and distribution system to meet current and future needs. 1.05.030 Goals: Page 2 of 2 3.4 Conduct effective and efficient operations, maintenance and replacement programs. FISCAL IMPACT: The original Water Treatment Supplies Purchase 2020 (Sodium Hypochlorite) approval was for an amount of $26,030. This item is for approval to increase the amount by $5,206 (20%), for a new not exceed amount of $31,236. Sufficient funds exist in the Board approved FY20 Water Operations Budget for this increased expenditure.
