Memorandum
To: Board of Directors
From: Peter Holzmeister
Date: October 27, 2006
Subject: Casting a ballot for LAFCo special district member
Why this matter is before the Board: This matter involves casting a ballot for special
district representative on Nevada County LAFCo. Only the Board can perform that task.
History: The LAFCo commission is comprised of two members from the county
supervisors, two members appointed by the cities in Nevada County, one member
representing the general public and two members appointed by the special districts in the
county. There are also alternate members representing those same categories. When a
term of office of a LAFCo member representing the special districts expires, the special
districts are asked to nominate a person to fill the vacancy. After the nominations are
received by LAFCo, a ballot is sent to each special district, votes are cast, and the vacancy
is filled.
New information: You will recall that there is currently a vacancy in the position of
Alternate Special District Representative. Attached is a letter from Katherine Hudson
informing us that we have until November 15, 2006 to caste a ballot. Only one candidate
has been nominated. He is Kurt Grundel from the Penn Valley Fire Protection District.
Recommendation: We can either caste no ballot or caste a ballot for Mr. Grundel.
