WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD This item is an informational workshop regarding regional water supply management. 2. HISTORY The clean, safe, and reliable drinking water delivered by the District to our customers every day, is pumped from deep groundwater wells located throughout the Martis Valley Groundwater Basin (MVGB). These watersheds and groundwater basins include the Lake Tahoe Basin, Truckee River Basin, and the Olympic Valley Groundwater Basin, in addition to several other smaller lakes and reservoirs. The responsibility for oversight and management of these various groundwater and surface water resources is placed upon a wide range of Federal, State and local agencies, as well as collaborative agreements, such as TROA, and sustainability plans put in place by regional stakeholders. Additionally, the rights to beneficial use of these water resources are governed and manged by water rights laws, adjudications and regional agreements. The Lake Tahoe and Truckee River Basins have local examples of many of these forms of water rights and resource management 3. NEW INFORMATION This workshop item will provide a high level overview of regional water resources, the systems in place to manage these resources, and current utilization by public and private water systems.
