• What is LAFCo
— Local Agency Formation Commission
— All 58 counties in the state have LAFCOs
— To encourage the orderly growth of government agencies
— To preserve agricultural lands
— To discourage urban sprawl
— To assure efficient local government

• Ed Beckenbach, Alternate Special District Member's term is
ends on May 6, 2013
• District may make a nomination
• Timeline
— Resolution and nomination must be received by April 1
— LAFCo prepares the ballot and sends to each special district
— TDPUD Board takes action on the ballot (future Board item)
— LAFCo must receive the ballot within 35 days

• There is no direct fiscal impact associated with this item

Recommendation
A) Decide whether or not to make a nomination to the position
of an Alternate Special District Member seat of the Nevada
County Local Agency Formation Commission
B) If the Board chooses to make a nomination, adopt a
resolution nominating a special district member to the position
of Alternate Special District Member of the Nevada County
Local Agency Formation Commission
