Schedule Public Hearing for Water
and Electric Standby Charges

Background I History
• Standby charges have been assessed on vacant parcels
since 1975
• Standby charges recoup operating and maintenance costs
of water and electric facilities when distribution lines are
available to vacant lots
• Vacant lots benefit from being in close proximity to water
and electric distribution facilities

• Nevada and Placer Counties require new resolutions each
year to add charges to the annual tax bills
• Current annual charges:
Water - $80 per unimproved parcel of any size
Electric - $10 per parcel less than an acre
$20 per parcel greater than an acre

New Information/Fiscal Impact
• To continue the standby charges, the Board needs to hold a
Public Hearing
• No proposal to change standby rates
• Budgeted Standby Charges for 2012-2013

Water Standby Charges 160,240

Recommendation
• Call for a Public Hearing on June 6, 2012 at 6:00 PM for the
purpose of receiving input on the adoption of Electric and/or
Water Standby Charges
