HomeMy WebLinkAbout12 Consideration of a Purchase to Replace a Mobile Data Collection Unit Agenda Item # 12 ■ UCKEE r Public CONSENT To: Board of Directors From: Robert Mescher Date: December 05, 2012 Subject: Consideration of a Purchase to Replace a Mobile Data Collection Unit 1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD Only the Board can approve purchases over $15,000. 2. HISTORY Ten years ago, the District purchased a mobile data collection unit, called "MC2", provided by a sole source vendor General Pacific. The MC2 collects data from the District's electric meters, provided by iTron. 3. NEW INFORMATION iTron has notified the District that the MC2 is outdated and will no longer be supported next year. iTron recommends that the District replace the MC2 with the newer MC3 data collector unit. District staff has reviewed the MC3 features and has determined it will meet the District's current and future needs. Attachment 1 is General Pacific's proposal for the MC3 totaling $20,000 plus tax. 4. FISCAL IMPACT Sufficient funds exist in the approved FY12 Budget for this purchase. The $2,520 MC3 annual maintenance fee is less than the existing $4,400 MC2 maintenance fee. 5. RECOMMENDATION Authorize the purchase to replace a mobile data collection system, totaling $20,000 plus tax. Robert Mescher Michael D. Holley Administrative Services Manager General Manager
