HomeMy WebLinkAbout11, Res Water & Electric Standby ChargesConsent Item #11 Consideration of Continuing Electric and Water Standby Charges June 5, 2013 Background / History • Standby charges have been assessed on vacant parcels since 1975 • Recoup operating and maintenance costs of facilities when distribution lines are available to vacant lots • Nevada and Placer Counties require new resolutions each year to continue charges on the annual property tax bill 2 New Information • Current annual charges: Electric - $10 per unimproved parcel less than an acre $20 per unimproved parcel greater than an acre Water - $80 per unimproved parcel of any size • No changes in standby charge amounts are being proposed • A public hearing was held this evening 3 Fiscal Impact The estimated revenue for FY13 — FY14 for this action is: Nevada County: Electric Standby Charges $ 241840 Water Standby Charges $1541160 Total Parcels 21324 Placer County: Electric Standby Charges $ 490 Water Standby Charges $ 41480 Total Parcels 85 0 Recommendation a) Adopt Resolution 2013-07 continuing and fixing electric standby charges for Fiscal Year 2013-2014 b) Adopt Resolution 2013-08 -continuing and fixing water standby charges for Fiscal Year 2013-2014 c) Adopt Resolution 2013-09 fixing and placing electric and water standby charges on the County of Nevada tax roll for collection d) Adopt Resolution 2013-10 requesting collection of electric and water standby charges on the Placer County tax roll 5
