Consideration of a Safety
Incentive for Employees

Background / History
• District's Workers' Compensation insurance modifier
(X-Mod) has been declining over the past three years
• No lost -time injuries since 2010
• The District has had an employee safety incentive program
since 2011

New Information
• The District is proposing to continue the safety incentive program
and increase it to a $250 level for 2013
• The workers' compensation insurance premium cost was $21,533
less than the previous year
• The District and its employees shows a commitment to safety
through the safety culture
• Regular trainings
• Review of incidents at weekly meetings
• Rewarding safe behavior and practices is an effective way of
promoting and maintaining our successful safety culture
• The union has committed to support this program to reward
employees for the stellar history of no lost -time accidents
