HomeMy WebLinkAbout8, Award Contract for Building ControlsAction Item # 8 Consideration of Awarding a Contract for Building Controls at the District Office July 17, 2013 Background / History • Staff continually looks for operational cost savings opportunities • 2009: The District transitioned from propane to natural gas for heating purposes —saved $10,000 per year • 2010: The Enovity Report (Building Energy Use Assessment and Improvement Study) identified the fan coil controls as a system that was outdated and in need of replacement 2 New Information • The project replaces outdated controls and valves • Includes an interface with the new boiler controls • The Building Control Project was advertised in the Sierra Sun and placed in 11 plan rooms on July 21 St • A mandatory pre -bid walk through was held on July 1st • Nine contractors • The bid opening was held on July 10t" 3 New Information Four Bids were received QCS, Inc. ATC, I nc. Building Control Services DIVIL Construction 0 Sparks, NV $89,950 Reno, NV $158,000 Reno, NV $163,748 Verdi, NV $164,326 All bidders were found to be responsive No bidder qualified for the District's local preference policy QCS verified valid bid price • All work to be completed by in house forces the bulk of their savings Fiscal Impact • This project was approved in the FY12/13 budget • There are sufficient funds in the approved FY12/13 budget to fund this project 5 Recommendation • Award the contract for Building Controls Project to QCS, Inc. of Sparks, Nevada in the amount of $89,950 plus a 10% change order authorization for a total amount not to exceed $987945. a
