Holley Date: October 02, 2013 Subject: Consideration of a Resolution to Commend Mark Thomas for His Many Years of Service 1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD This matter involves adoption of a resolution recognizing Mark Thomas for his many years of service to the District on the occasion of his retirement. 2. HISTORY Mark Thomas was hired by the District on January 16, 2002 as Water Superintendent. He has had a long and rewarding career, with 34 years in the water industry. Prior to being hired by the District, Mark worked for 4 other cities in Southern California and most recently was Water Superintendent for Glenshire Mutual Water Company. The District was fortunate to gain Mark as a part of the acquisition of the Glenshire Mutual water system. 3. NEW INFORMATION Mark announced his retirement to be effective on October 8, 2013. Mark has a long list of accomplishments including: • Operating the system for 11 years with great care and skill; • Conversion of the Donner Lake and Glenshire Mutual water systems; • Rebuilding 2 well stations; • Rehabilitation of 2 tanks; • Bringing 2 new tanks on line; • Replacing and upgrading 6 booster stations; • Adding 1 new booster station; • The addition of 3 new wells; • Adding 3 new control valves; • Solving the arsenic problems at 3 well sites; • Completing the Glenshire meter install project; • Hiring and training of 8 Service Techs; and • Replacement of numerous fleet vehicles within the water department. Mark's colleagues and customers will best remember him for his dedication, professionalism, knowledge, and responsiveness. We wish him the best in his future endeavors. Attachment 1 is the draft resolution commending Mark for his service to the District and its customers. 4. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact associated with this agenda item. 5. RECOMMENDATION Adopt the Resolution 2013-21 recognizing Mark Thomas for his many years of service. Michael D. Holley General Manager
