Subject: Consideration of a Resolution to Commend Vern Smith for His Many
Years of Service
1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD
This matter involves adoption of a resolution recognizing Vern Smith for his many
years of service to the District on the occasion of his retirement.
2. HISTORY
Vern Smith was hired by the District on September 2, 1997 as the District
Electrician/Meter Technician. Originally from Ogden Utah, Vern studied Electrical
Engineering at Northern Arizona University and went to an Electrician "A" school
during his time with the US Navy. He came to the District from Matanuska Electric
Association in Palmer Alaska where he worked as a Meter/Relay Tech.
3. NEW INFORMATION
Vern announced his retirement to be effective on November 1, 2013. During the past
sixteen years, Vern has been an integral part of the District's Electric Department. He
has helped modernize several District substations with upgrades to their
communication and reliability. Vern served as a committee member on the Electric
Utility Service Entry Requirements Committee (EUSERC). Vern also contributed to
the Water Department on many occasions. He designed electrical controls for water
pump station systems and helped troubleshoot when the SCADA system needed
repair. He is highly respected by his co-workers for his superior work ethic and
mentoring skills. We wish him the best in his future endeavors. Attachment 1 is the
draft resolution commending Vern for his service to the District and its customers.
4. FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with this agenda item.
5. RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the Resolution 2013-20 recognizing Vern Smith for his many years of service.
