Subject: Consideration of the Award of a Contract for the Purchase of LED
Lights for Trashion Shows
1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD
Board approval is required for expenditures in excess of $15,000.
2. HISTORY
The Green Schools program is a collaborative effort between the District, Tahoe
Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD), and the Sierra Watershed Education
Partnership/Truckee High School Envirolution Club to hand out a free conservation kit
to approximately 1,800 children and TTUSD staff at schools in our district District. This
program also has a significant education component including promotion of the
District's many energy and water conservation programs. Distribution of the
conservation kits and educational materials is via a series of Trashion Show general
assemblies at elementary & middle schools. The Green Schools program has had a
positive response since it's inception in 2010.
Past conservation kits have included spiral and flood CFLs, LED night lights and other
energy and water savings measures.
3. NEW INFORMATION
For 2014, staff proposes a 60W equivalent LED A19 lamp as the conservation kit
handout to the approximately 1800 children and TTUSD staff at schools in our District.
The District issued a Request for Bids (RFB) on November 25, 2013 and advertised in
the Sierra Sun November 27 for 2000 Schools Program LED A19 lamps. The bid
opening was held at 1:30 PM on December 9 and 3 reponsive bids were received from
EFI, Feit and Granite Electircal Supply. Feit was the lowest responsive bidder. A
summary of the bids is shown below:

The total contract amount for the 2014 Schools Program LED A19 purchase is for an
amount not to exceed $22,000 plus tax.
5. RECOMMENDATION
Award a contract to Feit Electric for Schools Program LED A19 lamp purchase for an
amount not to exceed $22,000 plus tax.
