HomeMy WebLinkAbout#15 Peter's report To: Board of Directors From: Peter L. Holzmeister Date: January 12, 2001 Monthly Activity Report 1. Broadband Business Planning: I spent considerable time during the past month preparing for the LAFCo public hearing, scheduled for January 18, 2001. USA Media has been purchasing advertising space in the Sierra Sun and has used its cable television system to make blatantly false statements about our plan and ask people to attend the LAFCo hearing. USA Media has denied us access to the cable television system to present the facts, so we are at a disadvantage. Democracy works when there is open communication regarding all sides of an issue. 2. Donner Lake Water system: Donner Lake water problems continue to take the majority of my time. I talk frequently with Kristi Lowell and Dennis DeCuir regarding their work. It will come to a conclusion during the next few Board meetings. 3. Elimination of the 11% Rate Discount: Attached are letters that have been e-mailed to me in reaction to our letter to all customers. You will note the relief in having information and the acceptance of a modest and necessary increase. Clearly our customers are following the statewide electric industry issues and have been concerned about what is happening in Truckee. 4. CMUA Board of Governors Meeting: I will be attending the CMUA Board of Governors meeting on Friday, January 12, 2001. With all the electric industry problems I feel the need to stay close to CMUA so I know what others are doing and thinking. 5. All Employee Meeting: I conducted an all employee meeting and discussed the elimination of the 11% rate discount. Steve Hollabaugh talked about how we are proceeding to secure future power supply contracts. Our employees asked many questions. They too are following this issue and want to know more. It is to our advantage to have them well informed so they can talk competently with our customers. 6. Labor Management Steering Committee: I met with the Labor Management Steering Committee. We have been resolving issues related to job descriptions, testing and promotions procedures, and organizational structure. The meetings are very positive.
