HomeMy WebLinkAboutJan03Rprt,Harry Staff Report To: Board of Directors From: Alan Harry, Director of Telecommunication Services Subject: Staff Activity Report; November ‘02 Date: January 10, 2002 During the month of December 2002, I focused my attention on five (5) areas: Fiber to the Home Implementation; Public Relations & Marketing; Financing; and Legal Issues * * * * * We continue to progress with the implementation of the District’s FTTH Pilot Project. Due to both internal and external issues occurring in December we now estimate that the Pilot design will be completed in February ’03. I have been in contact with a FTTH design firm regarding the preparation of the full system PON design. It is estimated that a final design could be completed by March ’03. I have been in contact with potential Voice/Video and Data providers and will soon bring a proposal to the Board for action. * * * * * I continue to meet with local businesses and residents to share the District’s proposal to provide competitive voice, video and data services. Business presentations in December totaled 3, with each business employing between 15 and 50 local residents. In each case I was asked to provide them with a Charter sign up form when available. * * * * * Aggregate Networks and I continue to be in contact on a daily basis. The sale of a portion of the conduit deeded to the District by Williams Communications is underway, with a formal offer due in late January ’03. Five lending institutions have been contacted regarding the funding of the District’s project of which three have shown a high level of interest. Specific information regarding methods of financing the project will be brought to the Board within the next thirty days. * * * * * In addition to keeping abreast of recent Court rulings pertaining to Broadband issues, Staff and Legal Counsel continue to work toward the end of our lawsuit with USA Media Group. Finally, staff and Sauers Engineering completed the Master Services Element , thus completing one of the three conditions set forth by Nevada County LAFCo. * * * * * As with all departments, December’s storm activity took priority for a portion of the month. My personal involvement focused on communicating electric and water outage and repair activity to the Town, Special Districts and the local press.  Page 1
