Kathy Neus, Support Services Manager Subject: February Staff Report AGENDA # 7o PURCHASING AND WAREHOUSING • The bid for the year's supply of OMR meters was awarded by the Board at the March 4 meeting to Wesco Distributing of San Francisco. The first delivery is expected by April 30t". • Austin International finally picked up the surplus meters from the 1997 meter change-out Program. Sue had to coordinate the transportation for pickup Austin International. with the freight company and • Sue participated in Outlook and Internet training. These are two programs on our new computer system. • Sam has been working on getting the warehouse ready for the upcoming busy season. He and Vern have been going through old material and disposing of ancient equipment that can no longer be used • Sue has been working on preparing inventory for the upcoming audit in March. BUILDING AND GROUNDS • The winter months have kept the grounds hidden„ but with some warm temperatures items are beginning to appear...broken snow stakes, garbage, parking signs and such. • The re-carpeting project is almost completed; only the stairs remain and they will be done in the next week or so. • There were no "emergencies"during the month of February. VEHICLE MAINTENANCE • There were numerous repairs ranging from replacement of windshield wipers to radiators. There were six service inspections and seven BIT inspections for the month. METER READERS • The Meter Readers have been staying current in their readings regardless of the weather conditions. To date there was only one OMR meter that they were not able to read. Some of the OMR meters are completely buried under snow and can still be read remotely. z C Z Y Y • There were 9,732 meters read, 123 service reports completed and 177 48hr/1013 notices delivered. I also participated in the Outlook and Internet training, As of the first of the year, I have taken over the responsibility of being the District's Safety Officer. 1 am not really sure what 1 have gotten myself into but 1 am looking forward t h challenge. 9 o the I have been working with the Support Services staff on job descriptions by objectives. This is goal setting process that is reviewed periodically throughout the year. a I spent time coordinating the carpet people and Macabee Office systems (they took down re- installed the partition walls and moved all the office furniture) so the new carpet installation would move as smoothly as possible. In the fall, Badger Water Meter Company gave the District six PRT (pit recorder transmitter) water meters. These meters are equivalent to the OMR electric meters used by the District_ District staff installed the meters and a Badger representative comes up at our request to read the meters. So far the reading capabilities have been pretty amazing. Since our water meters are located in the ground, this poses a very difficult situation. The meters are as deep as six feet with eight to ten feet of snow on top. All have been read without getting out of the truck. KN/smc s s f 9 Y I d f'
