WORKSHOP
To: Board of Directors
From: Ed Taylor
Date: June 04, 2008
Subject: Discussion of the 2007 Consumer Confidence Report (Water
Quality Report)
1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD
The Water Department will begin mailing the 2007 Consumer Confidence Reports at
the end of June. This review is intended to inform the Board prior to distribution of
the reports.
2. HISTORY
The District is required to annually prepare a Consumer Confidence Report for each
water system in accordance with Section 116470 of the California Health and Safety
Code. The Consumer Confidence Report is also known as the annual Water Quality
Report.
The District prepares two reports: one report for the main water system and a second
report for the Hirschdale water system. The District is required to mail a copy of the
appropriate report to each of its customers no later than July 1, 2008.
3. NEW INFORMATION
The year 2007 reports have been prepared by the Water Department and reviewed
by the State Department of Public Health. Attached are copies for your information.
The District's water supply meets all of the Maximum Contaminant Levels (MLC)
imposed by the State and Federal governments with the exception of the arsenic
level in the raw water supply for the Hirschdale system.
The untreated water directly from the Hirschdale Well has an arsenic level of 17.3
parts per billion (ppb), exceeding the allowable limit of 10 ppb. The District has
installed an arsenic removal system at the Hirschdale Well and the treated water
furnished to the customers has not exceeded 2 ppb since the system became
operational.
