From: Steven Poncelet
Date: October 15, 2008
Subject: Authorize the Purchase of LED Christmas Lights
1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD
This matter is before the Board as the purchase of LED Christmas Lights for the
Green Partner and Residential Programs exceeds the $15,000 limit and requires
Board approval.
2. HISTORY
The TDPUD Conservation Department started a LED Christmas light give-a-way
program in 2007 which was very successful. This program was expanded in 2008 to
increase the residential portion and include business accent lighting.
3. NEW INFORMATION
Staff has received pricing from three vendors (Mountain Hardware, Home Depot, and
Lowes) and Mountain Hardware is the lowest bidder and a local vendor. Mountain
Hardware is selling these LED Christmas lights to the TDPUD at cost. The total order
for 2008 will be $21,197.43 for a combination of 20 and 66 foot LED strings (see
attached). Staff is requesting authorization from the Board to purchase this amount
from Mountain Hardware. A first order for the residential program was placed on
10-8-08 for $10,841.43 under the General Mangers authority. A second order for the
Green Partners program for $10,356 will be placed shortly after Board approval.
4. FISCAL IMPACT
The funds for this order are in the approved 2008 Budget. There is no additional fiscal
impact.
5. RECOMMENDATION
Approve the purchase not to exceed $22,000 of LED Christmas lights from Mountain
Hardware.
