WORKSHOP
To: Board of Directors
From: Ed Taylor
Date: April 15, 2009
Subject: Review of 2008 Consumer Confidence Reports (Water Quality
Report)
1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD
The Water Department will begin mailing the 2008 Consumer Confidence Reports at
the end of April. This review is intended to inform the Board prior to distribution of the
reports.
2. HISTORY
The District is required to annually prepare a Consumer Confidence Report for each
water system in accordance with Section 116470 of the California Health and Safety
Code. The Consumer Confidence Report is also known as the annual Water Quality
Report.
The District prepares two reports: one report for the main water system and a second
report for the Hirschdale water system. The District is required to mail a copy of the
appropriate report to each of its customers no later than July 1 of each year.
3. NEW INFORMATION
The year 2008 reports have been prepared by the Water Department and reviewed by
the State Department of Public Health. Attached is a copy for your review.
The District's water supply meets all of the Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCL)
imposed by the State and Federal governments with the one time exception of the
arsenic level at Glenshire Drive Well.
Glenshire Drive Well arsenic level was 13ppb, this sample was taken on December 4,
2009. This was the first time Glenshire Drive Well was over the MCL of 10ppb for
arsenic. The State has required that we now sample for arsenic at Glenshire Drive
Well quarterly. After four quarters of sampling, MCL compliance will be determined
based on the average of the 4 quarters. On February 24, the second quarterly sample
was taken and the result was 9.2ppb.
The Consumer Confidence Reports are scheduled to be mailed the first week of May,
and will also be made available on the web site.
