Hi. My name is Ed Beckenbach, and I would appreciate your vote for me to fill the position as
Alternate Special District Member of the Nevada County LAFCo. For over 20 years, I managed
a research program for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, trying to find
enough successful biomedical applications of space technology to make people forget that we
really had no answer to the oft-encountered question, "If we can put a man on the Moon, why
can't we cure the common cold?"
In 2001, i was fortunate enough to be able to retire to Nevada County with my wife of 28 years,
Sharon. Wanting to be a good neighbor and responsible landowner, I asked Chief Boyd
Johnson of the North San Juan Volunteer Fire Department what I could do to make my property
as fire-safe as possible. He welcomed me to the District, gave me good answers to my
questions, and then, I swear without taking a breath, asked if I would serve my new community
as a volunteer firefighter. This I did, with pride, for over two years. I then decided that my
talents lay more in the arena of making sure that firefighters are provided with the resources
they need than in rolling out of bed at 2 AM to help a neighbor (even though some of the most
rewarding experiences of my life resulted from responding to these calls for help in the middle
of the night), and I successfully ran for the North San Juan Fire Protection District Board of
Directors. I am currently serving my second four-year term in this position.
I have represented my Special District before LAFCo on several occasions, and have found it to
be an organization performing a much-needed function, and doing it with a high level of
dedication and competence on the parts of both commissioners and staff. I believe I would be
able to make a positive contribution to these efforts, and again ask for your support and vote.

To Whom it May Concern:
I am honored to be appointed by the Truckee Donner Public Utility District (TDPUD) Board of
Directors as their nominee for the vacancy of the Special District Representative on LAFCo. I
am currently serving as a board member and Vice President of the TDPUD's Board of
Directors. I have been involved in public service for many years; beginning in this area as a
founding member of the Sierra Green Building Association and then moving on to Chair the
Truckee Green.Building Committee.
Additionally, I served on the Town of Truckee Planning Commission for two years including
acting as Chair of that Commission. During my tenure, the Commission was committed to
planned growth within its purview and spent many hours updating the Town's Development
Code and reviewed many of Truckee's larger development projects.
During the past several months of serving on the TDPUD Board, I have not only been taking
care of our"standard duties"but have also been elected Vice President. Further, I am very
involved in representing the TDPUD and the Northern California Power Association(NCPA). I
recently attended both the federal and state legislative and regulation forums in.Washington,
D.C. and Sacramento.
I am also a member of Rotary International, a licensed professional engineer and a small
business owner and employer. I live in downtown Truckee with my wife and two children.
I believe my background in public service, my ability to work well with others and
independently coupled with.my work and life experiences make me an excellent candidate for
the LAFCo Special District Representative.
Thank you for providing me this exciting opportunity to be of service to my community.
Very truly yours,
JEFF BENDER

Ronald(Ron)E. Perea
I am Ron Perea, Board Member of the Truckee Fire Protection District and I
am seeking your support. My fellow Board Members recently nominated
me for the position of"Alternate Special District Member" for the Nevada
County Local Agency Formation Commission for a second term, I have
accepted the nomination.
I previously served as Alternate Special District Member for the Nevada
County LAFCo. completing the term vacated by Kurt Grundel from March
2007 until May 2009.
This past November 2008 I was elected to serve a second term on the
Truckee Fire Protection District Board of Directors. I served 31 years with
the Nevada County Sheriffs office, all in the Truckee area, and retired as
Sergeant. In my many years in Truckee I have been involved in the
community, both as law enforcement and as a concerned citizen.
I am a good listener and will look at all aspects before making a decision. I
will participate in and have suggestions which may help in any decision
making on issues the may come before the Commission.
I have the time to be committed and therefore I want to serve on the Nevada
County LAFCo. as"Alternative Special District Member". I appreciate your
support.
