Subject: Consideration of an Amendment Extending the Contract with
Humitech for the Keep Your Cool Program
1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD
This item is before the Board to amend the existing Humitech contract for the District's
"Keep Your Cool" program.
2. HISTORY
The Northern California Power Agency (NCPA) developed the Keep Your Cool
program which is a specialized "direct-install" service for commercial refrigeration
(restaurants, convenience stores, commercial kitchens, local facilities, etc.). At the
May 6, 2009 Board meeting, the Board approved award of a contract to Humitech for
the Keep Your cool program for an amount not to exceed $30,000.
3. NEW INFORMATION
The District implemented the program quickly with very successful results: over 20
business customers served in a 2-week period; the program was on schedule and on
budget; and the energy/cost savings are excellent. The program was over-subscribed
and the District now has a waiting list of over a dozen businesses who did not get to
participate in the first round but are asking for the program. The Conservation
Department, due largely to a decline in commercial lighting projects, has $20,000 that
we are requesting to spend on additional work under the Keep Your Cool program.
4. FISCAL IMPACT
Sufficient funds exists in the FY09 budget for this item.
5. RECOMMENDATION
Amend the existing Humitech contract to increase the contract amount by $20,000 to
a new amount not to exceed $50,000.
