HomeMy WebLinkAbout7 Declaring Equipment Surplus Agenda Item # 7 R - DONNER Public Utility District I CONSENT To: Board of Directors From: Kathleen Neus Date: April 16, 2014 Subject: Consideration of Declaring Equipment Surplus 1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD Only the Board can declare equipment with value in excess of$1,000 surplus. 2. HISTORY The District has adopted a policy for the disposal of surplus property. Section 8.20.010.2 of the District Code states that for items with an estimated value in excess of$1,000 per item, the General Manager shall direct that a Board action declaring the items surplus be placed on an agenda for Board review and approval. 3. NEW INFORMATION In December of 2011 the District purchased a bi-directional tractor with a snow blower and 9' blade attachment. The 9' blade was awkward and cumbersome for snow removal. Additionally, with development over the years there is now fewer places to push snow. The Water Department relies more and more on the snow blower attachment. The blade has been sitting in the yard, unused for the last few years. Jim Wilson contacted Reiner Equipment Company, the company who supplied the equipment, to discuss options regarding the blade. Reiner Equipment has found a buyer for the blade. 4. FISCAL IMPACT There is a minor monetary impact associated with the sale of the surplus equipment. The blade cost the District $8,400 at the time of purchase; the estimated resale value is $8,000. The funds from the sale shall go to the Water Vehicle Replacement Fund. 5. RECOMMENDATION Declare the equipment as surplus and direct the General Manager to dispose of the goods in accordance with District policy. Michael D. Holley General Manager
