WY ACTION To: Board of Directors From: Steven Poncelet Date: April 21, 2010 Subject: Consideration of a Resolution to Commend the Members of the Truckee High School Envirolution Club 1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD The Board requested that this item be brought before them. 2. HISTORY At the April 7th Board meeting a workshop was presented that was an update on the "Trashion Show" Assemblies and Green Challenge. During this workshop, the history of the District's Green Schools program and the recent collaboration with the District, Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, Sierra Watershed Education Partnership, and the Truckee High School Deconvolution Club was reviewed. The Board directed staff to bring back a Resolution commending members of the Truckee High School Envirolution Club for their leadership in educating our community on the benefits of conservation and striving for a sustainable future. 3. NEW INFORMATION A resolution commending members of the Truckee High School Envirolution Club for their leadership in educating our community on the benefits of conservation and striving for a sustainable future is attached. 4. FISCAL IMPACT There is no direct fiscal impact associated with this Action Item. 5. RECOMMENDATION Adopt Resolution 2010-XX commending members of the Truckee High School Envirolution Club for their leadership in educating our community on the benefits of conservation and striving for a sustainable future. 6teven Poncelet Michael D. Holley Public Information & Conservation Manager General Manager • Re olution No. 2010 - XX Commending the Truckee High School Envirolution Club Members WHEREAS the Board of Directors of the Truckee Donner Public Utility District seeks to implement cost-effective conservation programs and educate our customers on the benefits of these programs; and WHEREAS the Truckee High School Envirolution Club created the Trashion Shows to educate school children on the benefits of living sustainably; and WHEREAS the Truckee Donner Public Utility District collaborated with the Sierra Watershed Education Partnership and the Truckee High School Envirolution Club to integrate the Truckee Donner Public Utility District's Green Schools program and conservation kits into the Trashion Shows to educate the school children on the benefits of conservation and to distribute energy and water savings measures; and WHEREAS the Truckee High School Envirolution Club helped the District distribute over 20,000 CFL's, over 3,000 LED night lights, and nearly 1,800 each of shower heads, sink aerators, shower timers, and other conservation measures and information; and WHEREAS the response to the Trashion Shows and the District's conservation kits from the children, school staff, parents, and the community has been overwhelmingly positive; and WHEREAS the Truckee High School Envirolution Club members should be commended for their innovation, courage, and leadership; and WHEREAS the Board of Directors would like to publically thank the members of the Truckee High School Envirolution Club; and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE DISTRICT THAT 1. The Truckee High School Envirolution Club be commended for their leadership in educating our community on the benefits of conservation and striving for a sustainable future; and 2.
