Subject: Consideration of a 2011 Cost of Living Allowance for Unrepresented
Employees
1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD
The wages for District employees must by approved by the Board.
2. HISTORY
The date of the last general COLA increase for all District employees was January 1,
2009. District employees received no COLA increase for 2010.
The employees represented by the union have a negotiated 3% COLA increase on
Jnauary 1, 2011. The unrepresented employees COLA was to be determined by the
August 2010 CPI-W average.
3. NEW INFORMATION
The August CPI-W is 1.4%. Based on prior discussions with the Board, staff is
proposing to increase the wages of the unrepresented employees by 1.4% on January
1, 2011.
4. FISCAL IMPACT
The cost of this COLA increase has been included in the FY11 budget.
5. RECOMMENDATION
Approve the 1.4% COLA increase for unrepresented employees effective January 1,
2011.
