Public Utility District
WORKSHOP
To: Board of Directors
From: Mark Thomas
Date: May 19, 2010
Subject: Review of 2009 Consumer Confidence Reports (Water Quality
Report)
1. WHY THIS MATTER IS BEFORE THE BOARD
The Water Department will begin mailing the 2009 Consumer Confidence Reports in
the middle of June. This review is intended to inform the Board prior to distribution of
the reports.
2. HISTORY
The District is required to annually prepare a Consumer Confidence Report for each
water system in accordance with Section 116470 of the California Health and Safety
Code. The Consumer Confidence Report is also known as the annual Water Quality
Report.
The District prepares two reports: one report for the main water system and a second
report for the Hirschdale water system. The District is required to mail a copy of the
appropriate report to each of its customers no later than July 1 of each year.
3. NEW INFORMATION
The year 2009 reports have been prepared by the Water Department and reviewed by
the State Department of Public Health. Attached is a copy for your review.
The District's water supply meets all of the Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCL)
imposed by the State and Federal governments with the exception of the arsenic level
at Glenshire Drive Well.
Glenshire Drive Well arsenic level was 12.1 ppb. This result was based on an
average of 4 samples taken over a one year period. The arsenic issue at Glenshire
Drive Well has since been corrected by blending and now the arsenic results at the
blending point are between 6ppb and 8ppb before the first service connection.
The Consumer Confidence Reports are scheduled to be mailed in the middle of June,
and will also be made available on the web site, and in hard copy form here at the
District offices.
4. FISCAL IMPACT
There is no direct fiscal impact associated with this item.
5. RECOMMENDATION
That the Board receive this report and provide comments.
