Donner Creek Irrigation Pipeline Bid Award
At the March 15, 2000 meeting the Board of Directors authorized staff to advertise for and accept bids
for the pipeline project Three bids were received and opened on April 27, 2000. The lowest bid was
from Longo Construction for$294,725.
The cost for the irrigation pipeline is $266,600, There is an additional item in the bid for a 24" casing
under the Donner Pass Road —Route 89 intersection. The bid amount for this item was $28,125. The
total amount was$294,725.
The reason for the casing under the intersection is that the Town is going to pave the intersection and
Donner Pass Road this summer. There is a need for a new pipeline to serve development known as
Hippie Hill, PC1 and other developments along Deerfield Drive. These developments will start within
the next year. The developers will reimburse the cost of the casing. Therefore, this part of the project
should be paid for from facility fees.
An additional item is the permanent erosion control for the pipeline installation after the contract is
complete. This will add to the cost of the total project but is not included in this contract. The amount of
$10,000 will be needed as a reserve for permanent erosion control, which will be required by Lahontan.
Recommendation
I recommend that the Board award the contract for the Donner Creek Irrigation Pipeline Project to
Longo Construction Inc.of Tahoe City in the amount of$294,725.
