Nevada LAFCo,
a) New legislation changes the way LAFCos are funded. In the past the several
counties were responsible for funding LAFCos. The new law says that counties,
cities and special districts share in funding LAFCos.
Attached is a breakdown of the share of LAFCo's budget as allocated to the Nevada
County, the three cities and the various special districts. Our share is $13,345. The
LAFCo budget is first allocated one-third to the County, one-third to be shard by the
cities, and one-third to be shared by the special districts. Within the amount to be
shared by the special districts the allocation is made based on revenues.
Our revenues are significantly determined by our purchase of wholesale power. It is
a simple pass through to our customers so it shows up in our revenues. It is a dollar
amount that will go up significantly in the next few years based on circumstances in
the electric utility industry.
I am not sure quite what to do with this. It is offered for your consideration and
possible discussion.
b) Attached is a letter from SR Jones announcing commencement of a process to fill a
vacancy in the position of special district alternate member. Bob Nix did not run for
office and was therefor ineligible for membership on LAFCo. Ron Nulph was
appointed to fill the unexpired portion of the Nix term. That term has now expired.
Jim Maass is being invited to attend the selection committee meeting. We need to let
LAFCo know by May 24 who will represent us at that meeting.
