HomeMy WebLinkAbout8 Sale of District Land Agenda Item # 8 G •Public District 1 Memorandum To: Board of Directors From: Peter Holzmeister, General Manager Date: June 1, 2001 Possible sale of District land The Board has been discussing the possibility of selling some of the land owned by the District. At the last discussion on March 7, 2001 some questions were raised that I hope to deal with in this memorandum. 1. The Directors expressed a desire to visit the parcels. At his point three Directors have done so. Pat and Jim will have the opportunity to visit them before a final decision is made to sell them. 2. There was a concern that we determine which parts of the Steele property the District needs for its own use, and to then initiate a lot line adjustment through the Town. Staff has a pretty good idea of what portion of the property we would want to keep. Until that is resolved by the Board we suggest keeping the Steele property. 3. The Board expressed the desire to solve the Nick Sasarini access problem involving the District-owned parcels at South East River Street. If the Board decides to sell these parcels the conveyance could grant land to Nick Sasarini to provide him access to his parcel 4. We were asked to review the value of the springs to our future water supply needs. The springs provide small quantities of water. They are considered a surface water supply and would, therefore, need to be filtered. The springs would be very expensive water sources. They are not a practical part of our water supply given the quantities of water we have in the basin. Recommendation It is my recommendation that the Board declare five parcels as surplus and offer them for sale following the process set forth in law. The five parcels are: a) The lot at Hansel and Lausanne b) The lot on Richards Boulevard c) The four attached lots at South East River Street d) The 45 acre parcel at Southside e) The 2.44 acre parcel at Rocky Lane If the Board chooses to sell these parcels we should determine the legal process involving offering them to certain public agencies and initiate that process.
