HomeMy WebLinkAbout15 Safety Manual Agenda Item # t-` RUCKEE DONNER Public Utility District Memorandum To: Board of Dirctors From: Petr Holzmeister Date: April 26, 2002 Subject: Safety Manual Kathy Neus is the District Safety Officer. She has been working toward updating the District Safety Manual. Our old safety manual, and old is an appropriate description, had been lacking a description of certain safety provisions, especially relating to work around 480-volt panels in water pump stations and entry into confined spaces. We believe that we now have a vastly improved document and suggest that the Board adopt it. Safety practices are always changing as we learn more about hazards in our workplace. Since we engage in a business that is particularly hazardous, and new tools and materials are always being introduced into our work, we will need to review and revise the Safety Manual regularly. RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that the Board adopt the resolution approving the District Safety Manual II I 111 R 4i ■ Ste- R Public Utility District Resolution No. 2002-95 Adopting a District Safety Manual WHEREAS the District employees persons who work in a variety of environments, some of which pose unique hazards to said employees; and WHEREAS the District is committed to insuring the wellbeing of its employees to the greatest extend practicable; and WHEREAS the District management has met with employees of the District to gather suggestions and input regarding safety issues and practices in the workplace; and WHEREAS a safety manual has been prepared containing a statement of District policy, and various safety procedures and practices to govern workplace safety; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Directors adopts the above recitals as its findings, and the Safety Manual dated April 2002 is hereby adopted PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Directors at a meeting duly called and held with the District on the 1 st day of May, 2002 by the following roll call vote: AYES: NOES: ABSENT: TRUCKEE DONNER PUBLIC UTILITY DISTRICT By Nelson Van Gundy, President ATTEST: Peter L. We can use this free source of energy to provide electricity to our community at much lower cost than what is available at present time. We live in Tahoe-Donner and are planning to use a quiet windmill to generate electricity for our home. In the past few months the increase in electric rates have made it difficult to live. According to our March 2002 electricity bill, the rates have increased by 136,o since the same period in 2001. Even though we have only used 2KWH per day more than last year, our costs have increased by more than $100 per month. In addition, the uncertainties regarding the Arab States and the poor US foreign policy in the Middle East region may result in an instability of oil availability and the fossil fuel energy supply. It is time for our community and our PUD to think about the future and begin using the free wind power we have in abundance in Tahoe-Donner to generate our electricity.
