Memorandum
To: Board of Directors
From: Peter Holzmeister
Date: July 11, 2002
Subject: Sale of District owned land
a) Status report: The Board previously directed us to sent letters to four public agencies
informing them of our intent to sell the parcel on Hansel and the approximately 45 acres
at Highway 267 (the Southside property). We sent letters to the Town of Truckee,
Truckee Donner Recreation and park District, State Resources Agency and Tahoe
Truckee Unified School District. These letters regarding the Hansel property we sent out
on May 2, 2002 and regarding the Southside property on May 17, 2002. The sixty-day
response period for the Hansel property expired on July 2, and the response period for
the Southside property will expire on July 17,
We received a response from the State Resources Agency saying the are not interested
in the Hansel property. No one else responded on the Hansel property.
As of the writing of this memo, no one has responded on the Southside property. I will
be able to update you in this regard on the 17th.
b) Process for sale of District owned land: Kathy Neus will be in charge of the details
of the sale of land, if the board decides to proceed. Neither Kathy nor I know the details
of the sale of land. We have real estate agents on the Board who can provide us with a
process to follow, so I would like some guidance from the board. It seems that we
should notify all agents in Truckee that the land is for sale and we will entertain offers. I
do not know how they get compensated if they bring us the successful offer. We also
have a list of people who have expressed an interest in land over the years; we can
send them a notice that the land is now available. We can rely on the services of Porter
Simon to help draw up the sales contract. We can discuss offers in closed session, but
first I would like to tie down a process before we proceed.
c) Authorization to sell the Hansel and Southside properties: Once we tie down a
process for sale of the land it is time for you to make the decision to proceed.
RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that the Board authorized staff to offer the Hansel
and Southside properties for sale following the Board approved process.
