Memorandum
To: Board of Directors
From: Ed Taylor, Water Utility Manager
Date: 6/3/2002
Subject: Consideration of an addition to the scope of services from Aqua
Hydrogeologic Consulting to provide testing and remediation services for the
Glenshire Drive Well.
BACKGROUND:
The District drilled the Glenshire Drive Well in 1996. The well was not developed to the full
capacity. The well produces water that has an arsenic level which met the requirements at
the time it was put into service (50ppb) but does not meet the new standard (10ppb). The
District needs the increased supply from this well to meet the needs of the east service area
(Glenshire). Staff is proposing to rehabilitate the well with the guidance of David Carlson of
Aqua Hydrogeologic Consulting.
At the February 6, 2002 Board Meeting, the Board approved a contract in the amount not to
exceed of$35,277 with Aqua Hydrogeologic Consulting for hydrogeologic services for the
further development and arsenic problem in the Glenshire Drive Well. Staff is now
recommending an addition to the scope of services of Aqua Hydrogeologic Consulting in an
additional amount not to exceed$30,000 to provide testing and remediation services for the
Glenshire Drive Well.
RECOMMENDATION:
i recommend that the Board approve an addition to the scope of services of Aqua
Hydrogeologic Consulting in an additional amount not to exceed$30,000 to provide testing
and remediation services for the Glenshire Drive Well and authorize the execution of an
agreement for the proposed services.

Re: Glenshire Drive Well Rehabilitation
ED:
The following is a request for a change order to my Task Services Agreement for the
rehabilitation of Glemhire Drive Production Well. This change order request is to include the
proposed work plan and cost estimate as provided by Carson Pump for completing the actual
rehabilitation work. Because my existing contract is for supervision and data collection of the
work to be completed at the Glenshire Drive Well it is natural that the work plan and cost
estimate as provided by Carson Pump be combined with my Task Services Agreement.
If you have any questions regarding this request for a change order, please contact me at
(775)250-9700.
Sincerely,
7Q

Dear David,
Following is a cost estimate to complete the scope of work that you outlined for me
on the Glenshire Well. Please note, that item#2, is to install an elbow on the pump
discharge, install a flometer, valve and discharge line out the door if required. I am also
only pricing the removal of the turbine pump that is currently in the well. If it is to be
reinstalled, the cost will be $6.501 per foot. I also am intending to use a 500 gpm, 60 hp
pump for the swabbing. This increases the price some, but I recommend pumping the
zones at the higher rate to get acurate samples. The spinner test, I priced at a depth of
150' for the pump and 160'for the 3" access pipe. When the test pump is installed, I
priced the hourly rate for the pumping, using the electrical power avaliable at the well
building. If I have to supply a'generator, the cost per hour will have to be increased for
the cost of the generator and fuel. The horsepower for the pump is approximately 150
bhp. If possible I would rather use our diesel power unit, but since the well is in a
building, this may not be possible. The mobilization and demobilization is a little higher
than normal, but we have quite a bit of equipment to move to the job site.
Look this over and if you have any questions, please call me.
Sincerely,
Dan Trampe
